Established in 2021, Doo Bursary is fronted by Doo Group with the intention to provide financial assistance to first year students who are facing financial difficulties. The group strongly believes that education possesses the power to alter destinies. Hence, providing hope through education is Doo Bursary’s sole purpose. Scholarships under Doo Bursary are constantly being granted to students to allow them to further excel in their studies and unlock their true potential despite financial limitations.  

Doo Bursary is formed on a venture with King’s College London, one of the top 6 universities in the UK. This alliance was established approximately 1 year ago with the sole purpose of alleviating financial burdens of students.

An Inspiration For Others

Elias, a first-year undergraduate of Enhanced Support Dentistry Programme (ESDP), Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Science shares his thoughts about Doo Bursary:

“I cannot express how grateful I am to my donor who has eased my financial burden at King’s. I certainly hope that I can offer the same kindness and support to another student to make their journey easier for them as you have for me.”

He also added:

“My family and I were extremely excited when I got accepted into King’s and showed me so much support and love throughout the journey. Especially my mother, whose dream was for me to study at King’s. She has certainly motivated me on this journey every step of the way.

Moreover, studying for a Dentistry degree at King’s has also inspired my younger sister to achieve great things, as she also hopes to study medicine at King’s one day.”

Breaking Barriers And Pushing Forward

Du’a, a first-year undergraduate of Pharmacy MPharm, Life Sciences & Medicine gratefully shared: 

“Thank you for believing in me and giving me a life of joy that I never knew before. I sincerely hope to repay this generosity and kindness in the future with the same opportunities that I’ve been blessed with as I’ve seen the significant impact and the improvements it implicates on one’s life.” 

She also added: 

“To be the first member in my family to attend a university has meant so much to us; it breaks the belief of generational curses, inspires my sisters – and myself that we can do and be so much more.  

I am truly grateful for the opportunity that words cannot properly express my delight and gratitude. It has really helped to motivate those around me, especially those who are living under similar circumstances. The barriers I faced as a result of my socio-economic status may seem sky high; but through perseverance, I shall prevail and be the beacon of hope to those around me!” 

Starting Anew With Fresh Hopes

R****r, a first-year undergraduate of Medicine MBBS Extended, Life Sciences & Medicine also added her views about Doo Bursary:

“My mother used to say knowledge should not be rushed but admired. I would rather take a longer route to build a stronger foundation because it’s not just about a degree for me, it’s about saving someone’s life at some point.”

She also added:

“I am the first person in my entire family to make it to a university. My mother always wanted to be a doctor, but she couldn’t because her parents had imposed an arranged marriage in return for money before she completed her studies. I want to make my mother proud. She has sacrificed and spent all her life savings to get me out of Afghanistan; just so that I could start a new life in a safer country and study.”

A new academic year is about to begin, and Doo Bursary is looking to support 10 more students in any faculty for the duration of their 3-year degree programme.
